Anand Gurnani
Anand Gurnani is the Co Founder, CEO & Managing Editor of the Internationally acclaimed Animation Xpress Network which is a B2B Media company focused on the Animation, Visual Effects and Gaming space. An authority on the Indian animation ecosystem, Anand has actively participated as a speaker and moderator at Industry Forums the world over including MIPCOM Junior, NAB, Digicon, AYACC, NASSCOM Animation & Gaming Summit amongst others. He has also founded and organized several leading Industry forums and conferences through Animation Xpress, these include, AITF (Animation & Interactive Technology Forum), AFF (The Animated Feature Forum), IAI (Industry Academia Interface). The latest initiative he is driving is the launch of the Asia Pacific and China edition of Animation Xpress. Anand is proud to be a high school drop out. He began his career at age 15 and in the past 14 years has seasoned himself in businesses including Incense Sticks, Printing & Publishing, besides of course animation and the media where he has spent the past 7 years. His obsessions include ‘Writing’ ‘Art’ ‘Travelling’ ‘Internet’ ‘Facebook’ ‘Food’ and he is grateful to the almighty as well as the animation ecosystem for providing him a profession and place under the sun where he can enjoy slogging at work. Besides his full time occupation as promoter and worker at Animation Xpress, Anand is currently also immersed in writing, ideating, and co-developing 4 properties including a children’s picture book series, a novel, a comic strip, and a ‘live action’ TV soap as well. Anand lives with his parents and brother in Mumbai which according to him is one of the safest cities in the world. The latest news from his end is that the recession has just made him uninhibited, fearless, and even more ambitious.
C B Arun Kumar
C B Arun Kumar has over 25 years of professional experience working in the Animation & Broadcast Industry in India. He did his Masters from the Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC Jamia) in 1989. Since then he has worked with Television18, Business India (TVI), Aaj Tak (Living Media), Doordarshan and Vijay TV (now Star Vijay). In 2001 he set up the Moving Picture Company’s Animation Division and worked on the first Indian 3D animation series, “Jungle Tales” (for Cartoon Network) In 2006 he shifted to Mumbai as Vice President of Maya Entertainment after which he worked as Head of VFX and Animation Operations in Pixion. He is one of the leading Virtual Reality photographers in the world specializing in digital panoramic imaging. He was awarded the National Award (Rajat Kamal) for Best Director of an Animation Film for “Kachua aur Khargosh”.(2005)
Gitanjali Rao
Gitanjali Rao graduated as an applied artist from Sir. J. J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai, in 1994. She won the gold medal and 7 awards for her final year project campaign. A self taught animator, she learned on the job during her association with many studios and film projects early on in her career. Her keen interest in narrative techniques got her into acting and stage crafts for a while. Painting, theater, folk arts of a culturally rich land finally synthesized into the art of making animation films. Her two independently produced, directed and animated short films ’Orange’ and ‘Printed Rainbow’, have won her 28 Awards, besides attending over 80 festivals all over the world and still traveling. Printed Rainbow has been the first ever Indian animation film to be selected at Cannes. It went on to win three Awards for the best Short film, ‘Critic’s Week’, Cannes 2006. She also has a string of very popular and award winning animated commercials to her credit and is currently represented by Acme Film Works, L.A. Over the years she has illustrated numerous educational aids for children with organizations like ‘Abacus’ and ‘Unicef’ Gitanjali currently, is an independent animator and director who makes her own films, along with her professional assignments. She has also been presenting her work and giving talks at various National and International Animation Conferences. She is now beginning work on a feature length animation film as well as pursuing her independent short animation film.
Samar Nakhate
I have a deep interest in the visual arts, and the philosophy of science and cultures. I am committed to bringing the media to common people; to develop an interdisciplinary appreciation of audio-visual, moving-image media including film, television and theatre to various sections of the Indian society, such as students, women, teachers and professionals in urban and rural areas. I am also passionately involved in nurturing and creating new young professionals for film, television and theatre.
Shrirang.S.Sathaye is a Graduate of Art (commercial) from Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art, in Mumbai. He has also done his Masters in Design (Visual Communication) from Industrial Design Center, IIT Mumbai. He has had a career spanning over a period of 22 years during which he has been involved in numerous Ad Commercials and Episodic animated work for television. He has also been a partner in his own animation studio, Toonsense Animation Studios for a period of 5 years. His strengths are in character design and storyboarding apart from being one of the premier animation artists in India. He excels in the classical style of animation and prefers the pencil to the computer. His exposure to 3D animation in VCL has added an additional strength in his abilities to value-add by combining the strengths of traditional animation with computer graphics. 2004 to present: Tata Elxsi- Visual Computing Labs Shrirang has worked as an Animation Director and Creative Supervisor on ‘Roadside Romeo’. This is a fully animated 3D feature produced jointly by Yashraj Films and Walt Disney Pictures. His involvement, besides animation, included spearheading the entire pre-production process for ‘Roadside Romeo’ including Character Designs, Storyboarding, Set & Prop design etc. Roadside Romeo is one of the five nominees at the Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards in the category ‘Outstanding Animation in an Animated Motion Picture’ alongside big Hollywood animation films such as Dreamworks’ Kung-fu Panda and Disney’s Wall-E and Bolt.
